About The Poet:
I'm an old country boy at heart. I was raised in a small town in Oklahoma surrounded by veterans of foreign wars who taught us kids what patriotism was all about. My home town is in the heart of the Choctaw Nation and I have a great deal of respect for Native Americans and their history. My friends call me Codger because they say I was born old. My passions are family, friends and a love for my country. Due to certain health issues I have taken up a hobby you don't see many men getting interested in. I create Native American and western wall hangings. I also do beading using seed beads, bone pipe, leather, feathers, etc. to create things such as hat bands, chokers, bead strips for clothing and wall art, hair ties, etc. I announced baseball games for my oldest son's teams through high school and college. I still announce whenever I get a call from one of the colleges he attended.
As for being published, if you can call a poem being printed in Baxter Black's newsletter being published, then I've been published. It was my first real attempt at poetry and it was written for my best friend who had just been told he had cancer.
Inspirations:
I write as a subject hits me. It may be an ill friend, the loss of a loved one, an especially memorable holiday or event.... In other words, I write when an event causes a poem to form in my mind. I've never really tried to just sit and crank out poetry. Writing For: 2 Year(s)

The name Mike Gentry sounds familiar, I'll have to ask her if she knows him but my guess is she does if he went to Santa Fe. She went to school with all those kids from grade school thru middle school and stayed friends with them even after she went to Memorial. Austin Fleet was another kid that played baseball for Lonnie I believe and was another friend of hers I remember. She knew the Weeden boys also. Take care. Steve
I have a son that currently is at Santa Fe. My daughter went to Memorial and is about to graduate from Oklahoma Christian. She was an All-American softball player there. Lonnie Cobble is my neighbor and I know several kids who played for him. My daughter was good friends with many of the kids at Santa Fe since that would have been her high school but we tranfered her to Memorial for the softball program. She was friends with Cody Kaiser and several others and is friends with several of the Southern Nazerene players as well as the Oklahoma Christian players. One of my good friends had a son, Tyler McIntyre, that played at Santa Fe and recently graduated from Oral Roberts. Really is a small world. Take care. Steve
