If music is your passion, why aren't you doing it everyday? How can your guitar sit in its case if music is what you live for? Songwriters write songs. Decide what you want to be and be it.

That is the end of the motivational speech. Here are some practical tips:

1) Practice the guitar. Getting better on the guitar can inspire you to create something new.
2) Learn something new about music. Do a practical study of chord progressions or chord formation. Create voicings of chords you haven't played before. Forget about songwriting for the moment and just learn more about music.
3) Learn other people's songs. Find a song you like and learn it. Don't just mess around with it, but practice it up to "performance level." In the process, I guarantee you will learn something *from* it. You'll get even more benefit learning songs from genres you don't usually expose yourself to.

Immersing yourself in music and expanding your skill on and understanding of the guitar will have two benefits. First, you'll get better on the guitar. Secondly, as your brain chews on the musical nuggets you feed it, it will get ideas for how to put those concepts to new uses. Creativity will kick in.

Likewise, read poetry. That will give you topical ideas as well as ideas about how to string words together in interesting ways.

If you're not feeling "creative" on a given day, that is an excellent day to work on theory and technique. Creativity will follow.

Poems for you - Free (US)
2008-04-05T19:34:01-05:00

As a developing middle aged poet, I am offering to create a limited number of short poems, based on your experiences, emotions, dreams and fantasies. The poems will be personal to you but will not disclose your identity. They will be free. Love, wonderful as it is, will be a secondary focus.

It's my intent to show human fears and needs as a foundation and then show dreams and fantasies are vitally important needs and escapes. Hopefully the poems will eventually comprise a book. Names will not be used and the poetry created will remain my property except for your personal use. No illegal activities will be considered.

Insecurity (financial and otherwise), longing, exhaustion, fears, loneliness, dreams and fantasies will be the primary sectors.

Your role will be to briefly describe the physical experience, emotion or fantasy and my role is to distill it into a poem for you...and a book.

I look forward to seeing what this brings and working with each of you. And I apologize to those who will not be included.
