Rhyming poetry by far is the most common poetry styles there is atleast in the American poetry readers eye.
Every direction you turn you still run into rhyming poetry and there are many people who think if it doesnt rhyme then its not poetry.
Poetry that rhymes can be both good and bad but the fact that as a writer if you limit yourself to only words that rhyme then you are limiting your ability to write. A persons vocabulary is only so large and if you write as often as I do you will find that maybe some of the words you most often use are starting to sound the same in your poems.
Change your poetry style. If you find yourself only writing poetry that rhymes then change it up a bit and try to write poems that dont rhyme. Use personification and put more emphasis on how your words will effect the reader instead of how your words will sound when being read.
Touch your writer not just yourself . Good poetry touches people in many different ways and if it doesnt touch a person then in my opinion its not good poetry. Stop pumping out the poems instead take your time on a poem and really think about the person who is going to read it. Try and decide how you want the reader to react and what emotions your trying to help surface for them. Poetry is not about the writer its about the reader and how they are affected.
So write poetry for the reader and not yourself, take time and really use your head when you write. In the end you will find you write less but then your poems are now being treated as art and people will start linking to your page waiting for the next lines of poetry that fall from your mind.
