Have you been dreaming about cranking the pedals and careening the trails during the winter's blue? Weeks and maybe even months have gone by and the thought of the first spring rides leave one feeling like its been years. Maybe it was the daylight savings time, winter depression, work, or the congestion of the holiday season; whatever the reason spring is near and its time to get back into gear. Kick start yourself back into shape and head toward that almost-forgotten new years resolution. Get out and ride the paths not to far from your back yard. Arlington's River Legacy Park offfers a variety of offroad trails and paved pathways designed for every skill level. Paved walking and biking paths extend over 8 miles from the parks entrance (Green Oaks Blvd) to its end and makes for a 16 mile round trip. For the offroad biking and hiking enthusiasts, over 4 miles of narrow and winding trails designed and maintained by NORBA ( National Offroad Biking Association ) are available. . The main loop, cut out a densly treed forest, has several off shoots and, although limited with obstacles like log hops and drop offs which more technical riders enjoy, it is excellent narrow track trail fun for working of speed and agility while building endurance for more challenging courses. At 2.86 miles, or including the off shoots over 4, conditioned riders tend to ride the main and outter loop several times on a typical outting. Great news for those who have cycling buddies whom are fashionably late; while they are still making their way to the park you can ride the trail once or twice and have you untimely friends wait on you. If you want to improve your skills, meet new people, and get involved with a cycling group DORBA ( Dallas Off Road Bicycling Association ) has group rides and events going happening all over the metroplex and beyond. The group is a friendly bunch of cycling veterans and newbies that can offer every level of rider technical help, training advice, and perhaps even a couple of laughs over at Al's Hamburgers, their choice Thursday night hangout.
