The rains falling down hard
Like tears that have long been shed,
Tears falling on the leaves,
The shadow of the sun is gone,
just like memories that were made long ago.
Friendships blossomed, just like the flowers do,
But now only the dried up petals remain.
Snatches of song, once sung by youngish lips,
Songs of a love now gone,
Of a love now lost in time.
Girlish romances, girlish hopes and dreams,
Now seem so silly, plop, plop,
they disappear into nothing.
The rain falls down hard,
Cleaning up what once was,
Memories, laughter is hidden underneath the earth,
The rain just washes it away so that it can’t be seen.
Using a shovel, trying to dig up what’s been pushed under the rug,
Trying so hard to find it,
but the remains just aren’t there to be found.
Rainbows comprised solely of hopes and fears, hide nothing but childish games,
Which are really versions of adult responsibilities.
Toys remain, now broken and silenced, bears that comforted us, when the tears fell,
And comforted our aching hearts,
Photos of me in the past, the innocence of childhood lost, only reminders of who we once were.
Baby bonnets and clothes remain, sitting in the corner, dusty and long worn,
But the baby’s cry is heard no more.
Memories, songs that were once sung, the heart which once hoped for love and romance,
are only shadows, hidden in time.
Now
only objects remain, they simply become a reminder of what’s happened,
of what was, long ago.
The voices of yesterday simply become
Whispers and echo’s that now only the earth sings, of songs and memories that time forgot.
