Innocent Lost : Creative Writing

Couldn't sleep last night and was cleaning out storage boxes I had. Came across this I wrote immediately after the 9/11 bombings.

How could we have prepared for this? We are now left to explain to our children that we have just seen true evil. Previously, telling them "bad people" exist was difficult. This surpasses difficult, this is almost impossible. Our own fears as adults we don't wish to tell them. We simply can not make ourselves understand. Understand our fears that all sense of security is gone. For us to understand grief and anger seem to go hand in hand. Our president speaks of living our lives normally again. Norlmacy was stripped away as was innocence, all sense of security. We are no longer as naive to believe it can't happen here.

And yet when we shed our tears for the innocene lost, we should also stand in pride. Pride of everyday people helping their fellow man. Pride in knowing we still have free will in our country. Rather we choose to smile, shed a tear, scream in anger or sit in silent prayer, it is still our choice. Thank God for what we do have and pray we get back some of what we have lost.
