Set steady gaze upon the sun
and one shall surely lose all sight.
As searing rays in shocking stun
destroy connections one-by-one
thus blinded, dead eyes scan the night.
And finding nothing, senses shift
to compensate and take up slack.
No compass points through currents swift
to right the course once set adrift.
Concentric circles draw us back.
In dread, one only hopes to hear
a soothing voice or friendly tone.
But as each desperate cry calls clear,
the mocking echoes edge us near
the empty void we've always known.
Perhaps, in hindsight, who could think
what misery we would ingest?
Such weight of sin, great depths to sink;
all swallowed whole, without a blink.
Obedience God's only test.
