“Here she is,” Chilly interrupted.

A woman in a long gray dress and high boots casually walked towards them, rounding from a dark corner in a nearby building.  Her long hair swayed in a smooth motion behind her, but what was more striking about her was the fact that she seemed pregnant, her belly quite large.  She easily walked up to the side of the van as it parked and got in.

Immediately, Naika started to scold the assassin.  She swiveled her body to look at Kira from the front seat, her face frowning in worry and disapproval.  “You could have been caught,” she said in a stern voice.  “What entered your head that you had to jump off one of the tallest hotels in the world?”

Opportunity knocked,” Kira replied simply.  She lifted the hem of her dress and took out the bag that held their target’s severed head. Stretching out her hand, she tried giving it to them.

Chilly yelped in disgust and his hands almost jerked off the wheel.  “Ew, Kira!  You want us in an accident? Throw that in the back, please!” He sighed dramatically as Kira did as told.

Naika shook her head in resignation.  Kira –seemed- to be the obedient assassin, but she still had her own ideas in doing things.  And after five years of working with the assassin, she should have been used to it by now.  She reached over and placed her palm over Kira’s cheek.  “If you’re going to do something sudden like that, can’t you give me a head’s up?” she said with a wry smile.  “I’m still in charge over your safety, you know.”

Kira looked at her for while, unmoving.  She then nodded slowly.  “I’m…sorry,” she finally said.

“That’s all right, honey,” Chilly said as he kept his eyes on the road.  “As long as we got the job done clean, we can handle the surprises.  Not too much, though!  Although I am concerned about the boss’ reaction when he sees that bag you’re carrying.”

“I’m more concerned on how he’ll react when he sees it on the news,” Naika muttered.  Already they can hear sirens faraway.  “I don’t think he’ll consider this clean either.”  She was more worried about Kira than the completed mission.  The boss demanded total adherence to protocol; he would not be amused from the surprising tactic Kira did, no matter how brilliant it may be.  Chilly gave a snort in agreement.

The van was quiet the whole way back to headquarters – several miles from the city.  The scenery changed from high rise buildings and bright street lights to growing darkness as they approached the woods.  Imperative that they should not be seen, Chilly put on special glasses as he shut off the headlights and turned on the infrared that were installed on the roof.  Turning into a dirt road, they drove in absolute silence.  It was only from Chilly’s driving skills and infrared that enabled them to maneuver in the dark towards their center of operations.

Soon, a tall, box-like structure, its outline visible despite the near-darkness, appeared in the distance.
