A shadowy figure stood alone on top of a high-rise building. It was not yet late in the evening, but already the traffic several stories below has been getting lighter. The night air has a taste of stillness in it, as though as the vehicles below were beginning to get scarce, time would start to stand still like a stolen photograph. As the night grew on, the figure still stood, waiting.
"You have a visual on her, Chilly?"
"Of course, silly girl. I always have a visual on my lovely. Have been for the last two hours actually. Aren't you cold up there, Kira?"
"No," was the soft, curt reply. Kira looked at the building several blocks from where she was, her eyes directly looking at the room where her weapons master, and followed by her intelligence officer, were waiting.
"Jesus, Kira. It's so eerie that your eyes can see like that," Chilly said with a slight shudder of his shoulders.
"The target is on its way," Naika said, "ETA fifteen. You'll probably be seeing the limo by Fourth Street already, Kira." She shook out her coat and threw it on the bed before joining her teammate by the window. Sitting down beside Chilly, she looked at the spare pair of binoculars handed to her. "You sure you're good, K? I could drive up by the corner there to give you backup."
"No, thank you," Kira replied again. Indeed, several streets away she could discern a long black limo turning by an intersection. She watched the car with unblinking eyes. "He's coming."
"Oh, good," Chilly said with an exasperated sigh. "The sooner we get this done, the sooner I can get my foot spa scheduled."
"Shut up, Chill. You already had that stupid massage-whatever last week!" Naika said with a hint of disgust in her voice. She glared at her partner who only looked back with an eyebrow raised.
"That was last week, honey. It's called 'maintenance', if you ought to know."
"Ridiculous, is what I'd call it."
"Shush," Kira suddenly spoke in her intercom, halting the brewing argument. "They're coming out."
