Angel's Apple - Back at HQ : Creative Writing

written by Poet : Teina Hakuto

"What do you mean we can't see her?" Chilly demanded of the woman in front of him.  "We're her teammates, we have the right to see her!"  He and Naika were in the hospital ward back at Headquarters.  Immediately after they saw Kira collapse, they'd radioed for help, something that they have never done before, and Chilly was shaken from the fact that his lovely Kira might have met her match, no matter how mysterious that match may be.  He now was seething, though, in front of the doctor woman, the same one that almost always hovered at the Director's side.  The woman meanwhile looked at him calmly.

"I told you," she said, her eyes not wavering, "Kira needs her rest and continues to undergo observation.  She has been through an ordeal, after all."

"She's faced worse things, nurse," he almost spat the last word.  "Something happened to her when she saw that symbol in Siberia, and I want to see that she's fine!"

Now, the doctor frowned.  "Major Lancet," she stressed, her eyes narrowing, "I assure you that she is under our best medical care.  You will be allowed to visit as soon as she is deemed out of danger.  Until that time comes, I would kindly suggest that you expend your energies in a more worthwhile activity."

Chilly opened his mouth to make a scathing retort, when Naika reached out and touched his arm.  "Come on, Chilly," she said firmly, "I'm sure we can come back later." She squeezed his arm a bit tighter.  Chilly turned to regard his partner, seeing the look in her eyes.  He then turned to the doctor and sneered.  "We'll be back.  Soon."  Without waiting for her reply, he turned and left with Naika beside him.

When they were now far enough to be out of earshot, Naika whispered sharply.  "I need you to look at this," was all she said as they walked back to her quarters.  Chilly wondered what it was, but trusted her enough to keep quiet to move alongside.

As soon as they reached Naika's room, she hurriedly went to her computer desk and turned on her unit.  "Look here," she said, clicking a few keys.  "I took a picture of that symbol that made Kira faint.  What do you see of it?"  Enlarging the image, the symbol mainly looked like a circle with a cross in it, and what seemed to be like an infinity symbol cutting across the horizontal line of the cross.

Chilly sniffed, unimpressed.  "It looks like a reject stamp design in scrapbooking," he said.  He was still pissed off at the fact that they couldn't still see Kira at this time.

Naika sighed.  Sometimes the man was so stubborn.  "Chilly, look.  I know that you want to see her, and I do too.  But we can't get past that doctor, so we have to focus on something else.  I'm still at a loss as to why Kira fainted when she saw this thing.  I know we've never seen this before, and yet it affected her so much.  Why do you think is that?  Remember that outpost.  There was nothing much in there but mere sitting rooms and a bunch of nonsense files, but the security there is mostly tight.  Why the hell do you think that is?"  Chilly paused, seeing the reason in Naika's words.

"Besides, this symbol looks to be more than what it is.  I don't think we should look at it in the whole…we need to separate the components of this."
