Age Does Not Bear- 2004
By Sharon Teresa Collins
Age does not bear upon the old that love the way we do.
It does not offer itself in gold, as this is meaningless too.
Left no one creature's soul unmended,
Alas, my life has been attended,
By the growth of silver strand;
An earning kempt in tireless hand.
No more indifference than does matter,
True, the best is but the latter;
The latter is the new.
Attend to self and surely flatter,
The old becomes no more no later,
The innocent are few.
The heart remains the body's capture,
A soul that slights the morning dew.
