Time to Sever

Is it time to proceed

when the romance is ended

and there is nothing left to read?

When your bell doesn’t ring

to the melody of his voice

and your heart no longer sings?

When the passion has died

and the truth becomes lies

you find the tears absent to be cried?

When you can’t seem to share

dreams and hopes anymore

and in truth, you don’t even care?

Must you keep on trying

when the faith is gone

and you find the friendship dying?

When your too tired to fight

the same ancient battles

after you go out together at night?

When you trip over promises, mislaid

in a life of unsettled clutter

is their still a debt to be paid?

Are the gilded lies

that are holding you bound

too tight to sever the ties?

Should you say it’s over-

can you find the strength

or do you simply, roll over?

Do you find the resolve

or will it be deferred

till’ identity begins to dissolve?
