I have never mourned the loss
of a treasure chest buried deep,
nor do I remember the face of money
when I’m haunted in my sleep.
My family never sat at a counting table
when we blessed our meal each day,
and I don’t recall asking Dollar Bill
to come outside and play.
When comfort was my neediness
a buck never wrapped me in embrace,
and my most important memories
didn’t happen at Prosperity Place.
The gift I hope to offer my children
in material gain can’t be found,
our wealth is inside our family circle
not within cash, possession nor ground.
To me there are no riches greater
then the strength my family offers,
and if given the choice of love or coin
I would sooner be buried a pauper.
