On A Comets Tail
I gazed out my bedroom window
toward a small corner of the sky
watching stars winking
like miniature fireflies.
The night was to carry meteor showers
that descend as the rain
but, I waited and waited
and my wish never came.
I only sought a piece
of the quiet starry night.
I only wanted to glimpse
one star in its’ enchanted flight.
I coveted my wish to reach Heaven
on the flames of a comet’s tail,
I searched for that blaze
But, in the end I would fail.
Maybe, when I don’t request
the sky to boast in front of me
God will permit just one star
to soar from Heaven, free.
Then I will wish the laughing smile
that once held within Andrea’s eyes,
replace the hollowness in her mothers’
where her own smile only cries.
