Maybe... : Life

Maybe the weather is bad in Iowa

or you and your “other” had a fight.

Maybe a bad case of indigestion

kept you awake the entire night.

Maybe you bounced another check

or you stubbed your foot on a chair.

Maybe you searched your dresser

to discover no clean underwear.

Maybe your hair won’t do a darn thing

and your coffee pot is broke.

Maybe you missed the stupid bus

or you were the punch line of a joke.

Maybe the zipper went out in your jeans

or the tractor broke down again.

Maybe you have too much homework…

Maybe the gossip is on the loose

and you can’t afford to buy gas.

Maybe you hate your job today

or the mirror enlarged your ass.

I’m nearly sixteen now

so forgive me if I have more gall.

But I think I know what I’m saying

I have lived my life after all.

Don’t find yourself sweating the small stuff

because tomorrow is another day

and I am always right beside you

can you hear me when I say…?

Hey… sometimes your day sucks

but I never want to hear, “I quit”

you only get one chance at life

and I want to see you living it!
