She said, it seems like yesterday
you were in a car seat,
as her daughter slipped behind the wheel.
Don’t worry, I’m a good driver, she replied,
mom, don’t make it such a big deal!
She said, it seems like yesterday
you had your first birthday,
at her teenager’s sweet sixteen.
I’m not a baby anymore, she squealed
and at this party I am the queen!
She said, it seems like yesterday
you hated boys,
as her daughter ran to the door.
I’ll be back by curfew, she shouted,
and I don’t hate guy’s anymore!
She said, it seems like yesterday
you started preschool,
as her husband helped his daughter move.
I’m so excited for college! the girl said,
she had so much she wanted to prove.
She said, it seems like yesterday
you wore your baptismal gown,
as on her dad’s arms I watched her smile.
She was so beautiful in her wedding dress
as she walked down the church aisle.
She said, it seems like yesterday
your mommy was born,
as she rocked her grandchild to sleep.
She was so happy for her daughter
that she silently began to weep.
She was tormented
when she awakened
to find her pillow damp with tears,
and find her dreams had tricked her
into experiencing all those years.
She calls out
her daughters name in anguish
ANDREA…she will say,
if only you were here with me now
it seems like yesterday….
for my sister, Nancy I know you wish you could bring back yesterday. Love, Sherrie
