Darlene’s Heaven
Darlene no longer needs her hearing aids
No leaning on walkers or canes
She doesn’t require help to the restroom
Nor all the medication for pains
She no longer has the obligation
Of her tired body to attend
She can frequent Heaven’s Diner
And eat her pancake and egg with old friends
She can fish as she desires
(I’m sure Heaven has great spots)
She can play cards with her parents
Whom she has missed a-lot
She can tell her Grandson’s stories
About her time she lived on earth
And recount the history and the changes
She has witnessed since her birth
She can, at last, wrap her arms around Shirley
As a Mother has ached for so long
And in the dimple of Shirley’s smile
Will vanish all that was wrong
She’s no longer suspended as winter
The chore of living taking its toll
She was ready for this new beginning
It’s like springtime for her soul
I know Darlene is content
And she will greet us all again
When we each meet her in Heaven
And our new lives begin.
