Winter Light : Childrens Poetry

written by Poet : Paul McCann

Underneath a lamp light there's a golden glow on snow ,

The winter light will guide our way and away we go .

Icicles on water spouts and smoke from chimney pots  .

Frozen streets at twilight time and empty vacant lots.

Parlours on the pavement with faces at the window .

Knock knock upon the door , sure it's nice to say hello .

The baker's rolled his dough and there's always a spare slice .

Moonshine up the alley , the cold wind cuts like a knife .

Lined up snowmen guard the town with arms of little sticks .

There's a hearth without a fire where flames tongue never licks .

Crying cats on back yard walls and snowy dustbin lids .

Hush puppies on red chilblains and hot soup for the kids .

Chairs around the fireplace with crackling winter light .

It's cosy on the inside but cold out in the night .
