I went to mass feeling a little down , a little perplexed ,
And a little bit too far away .
With no welcome smile at the door I walked inside the building ,
And knelt down and I started to pray .
I imagined myself alone fishing in a river of souls
On the edge of humanity .
I cast my line out and felt as if God had caught my word .
In my heart I found peace that set me free
I turned around and reached out my hand
Peace be with you I said to the person standing behind me .
Peace be with you too ,
came the reply .
There was a welcome in what we said ,
It was simple and free .
I have faith and hope that one day God will
Welcome us all home in everlasting kind of way .
So as I left the church I exchanged a friendly smile,
Isn't it great to treat each other this way ?
