The Mermaid And The Pirates : Childrens Poetry

written by Poet : Paul McCann

She was washed up on the shore lying upon the sand

Long hair fell across her shoulders , her tail not meant for land .

She tried to speak but her murmur ,I  could not understand

She pointed to a pirate ship ,then clenched her open hand .

She shook her fist and then I saw the anger on her face .
I saw an open wound ,it was humanities disgrace .

I carried her back into the cave, no mans eyes had seen .

I dressed the mermaids injury ,where some harpoon had been .

Soon she was better ,and was fit to return to the sea .
So she returned back where she belonged and not here with me .

She flipped farewell with her tail and swam away to the sea .
Leaping in and out of the water , again she was free .

I watched the sky 'til the sun slipped away and out of sight .
I heard a mermaid singing as I fell asleep that night .

In the morning I awoke from a deep and peaceful rest .
I found lying there beside me a pirates treasure chest .

Gold and diamonds where filled to the top of this massive trunk .
That day out in the bay I saw a pirates ships had sunk .
