The Mass At Sutton Forest : Religious Poetry

written by Poet : Paul McCann

It was that special time of year again

and there was parking off the street

In St Patricks at Sutton Forest  you had to be quick to get a seat ,

Fr Albert welcomed the faithful and those there for the very first time ,

An Irishman in the front stood up and he started to recite a rhyme .

The congregation were chattering in Latin,

Hymn books where missing or lost,

Hail Glorious St Patrick was sung out as the old rafters

paid the cost  .

T'was after holy communion the final blessing came down on a few

In that moment  St Patrick was there ,

And said very softly God bless you .

Then as everyone left the church door ,

they were handed a  paper plate

It was hello and not goodbye ,

Until the day we meet at heavens gate  .
