Shadows Of An X-Rayed Love : Romantic Poetry

written by Poet : Paul McCann

Shadows fell as winter kissed her cold breath on the river that lay still .

I stood on the bridge and gazed at the bare trees and saw you in the chill .

I said to myself I think I am in love , as a romantic would .

In a beautiful moment I found you remembered and understood .

I was looking at you through shadows of winter falling round my head .

Through the shadows a face stared back at me and told me our love had fled .

As I stood there looking at your  face , it seemed grey and so far away .

The touch of your hand was pure and as cold as ice ,

What more can I say ?

An artic wind cut me in two , bitterly it blew around my head .

I'm looking back at shadows to a love that found winters chill instead .

One by one I took slow frozen footsteps for home .

Tears dropped where I trod .

Pictures of our love had been x-rayed by a momentary act of God.
