Seats Reserved : Inspirational Poetry

written by Poet : Paul McCann

 The door was open ,

but the big church was empty .

No bells rung , no songs sung ,

silence was  a plenty  .

Candles burned for someone

who might have come before .

You'll never walk alone  ,

someone came in the door .

The young man came

in from the rain and took a seat .

It looked like he was in need

of a bite to eat .

He got on his knees

and began to pray ,

he said ,

'Hello its me again God ."

The he bowed his head .

His clothes were soaked through

and his hair was dripping wet    .

Some Christians choose to ignore

or they just forget .

The sacristan approached

the young man who knelt there ,

and interrupted him

as he was deep in prayer .

"These seats are reserved ,

could you move to another ?

The young man replied ,

"The church is empty  brother ?"

"It doesn't matter ,

the seats reserved  so move on ."

"Listen"

He answered ,

"Before this moment is gone ,

I'd just like to point out

I am just passing through ,

and thought I'd just say a prayer

 as often I do .

My smell and my looks

you may not appreciate ,

but all of my prayers

make their way to heavens gate  .

So before I leave this church

to sleep on the street ,

Could you tell me for who

did you reserve this seat  ?"

Some people have no answers ,

its like they gone deaf ,

The sacristan walked off angry ,

 the young man left .
