Salt Lake City Games : Sports Poetry

A hand of friendship is reaching out
from Salt Lake City to all the nations of the world .
Come and compete for we are one .
One colour .
One creed .
One people .
We were gathered by a flame ,
rekindled by the spirit of peace ,
before the games begun .

We stand united under one banner .
Although our anthems may differ we have a personal goal that remains the same .
There is something special running away with us ,
it drives us towards victory .
As adrenalins rushing through the vein .

From Jason and the Argonauts to Salt Lake City ,
where thoughts of success are kept burning by the
Olympic flame today .
Through poverty and war the flame has kept on glowing ,
bestowing out it's challenge to athletes to compete ,
come what may .

Determined not to let them show,
sometimes tears must flow ,
because it is there in our sorrow that we find we all are the same .
We all are members of the human race .
Each one of us has a goal before us .
Each one of us has a dream to attain .

The whole world watches the Winter games of
2002 at Salt Lake City ,
like the colours of life that never fade .
Long may the Anthems remain in our hearts
Long may we hold special memories of Salt Lake City,
A place where dreams were made..
