New Years Eve By The Lovely Lee : Narrative Poetry

written by Poet : Paul McCann

It was New Years Eve in a distant place and time when all the world seemed young and free .

I was standing alone by the bridge near Parnell Quay looking far out to sea .

As the bright stars shone down in my eyes that night moonbeams rested on the river Lee .

Oh the lovely Lee flows out to sea ,
on and on like life that flows eternally .

I can never forget the love in my heart for a place called Cork down by the Lee.

As hard as it was I had to turn away and leave its now just a memory .

Church bells chimed and it was time to go. I left the place that had made a home in me.

Teardrops tumble for times now gone but every river makes its way to the sea .

On every ripple sea birds fly for home .
I sailed on from the banks of the Lee .

Cold winds tend to blow the misty memories that sometimes sweep over me .

The snow melts away, then winters chill is gone but not for the beauty of the Lee.

It was long long ago that I fell in love oh but how I wish that you could see,

the stars in my eyes and the times gone by for it's lonely I am without you Lee .
