A soldier stationed far from home sat down on the ground.

He looked at his letter there and wrote these few words down.

Peacetime is so wonderful
And yet I feel so sad.

Because we are at war here and good times can't be had.

I'm sorry I can't celebrate
This new year with you.

Just remember me before the old year is all through.
