Since 1789 the presidential line, has brought America to where we are in this point of time .
Built on the foundation that George Washington had laid .
In the United States a unique separation was made .
Between the red and the blue blocks , the stars and the stripes ,
there was rivalry in politics that turned friends into snipes .
The civil war was to come and the Union defeat brought home the reality that neither North or South could meet .
They said the Union must be preserved and so it was with a victory for Lincoln , there came a new set of laws .
Soon the corporate class raised their glass to the health of the working class and malice was placed high up a shelf .
Lincoln was assassinated after all he'd done to bring kindness and conciliation for everyone .
Johnson became president but no hands were out reached , in a political turmoil Mr Johnson was impeached .
But presidents and politics can never abort and so Johnson served out his term even though he lacked support .
The assassinations of presidents continued as the antagonists could not let go of the bitter feud .
24 years of Republican rule had ended in 1885 the democrats had been befriended .
McKinley and Roosevelt 's presidency paved the way for liberalism and conservatism to have a say .
But the split in the party was not welcomed by some and so Woodrow Wilson was elected to get the job done .
In 1917 he asked congress to declare a war on Germany after recent submarine warfare .
With the war won , the league of nations was created, and it was hoped that somehow further wars could be abated .
In the depression that followed Roosevelt had been named to bring stability and hope back to the country again .
After that job was done the second world war had come and Franklin Delano had not finished what he had begun .
In 1945 Harry S Truman became the first nuclear age president with a tiger to tame .
With Germanys defeat a new president arose ,
Dwight Eisenhower was his name who began many overthrows .
The next thing was a cold war with the USSR and a situation in Cuba over nuclear power .
Then in 1961 came a special someone called John Kennedy who took on the missile crisis and won .
Kennedy was called leader of the free world and then he was assasinated by one or some say other men .
Along came LBJ just in time for Vietnam . The theatre of war rehearsed behind curtains of napalm .
In 1969 Richard Nixon came to power but the Watergate affair never saw him go very far .
Gerald Ford sat in until Jimmy Carter came along but still politics were uneasy and the tensions were strong .
In 1981 an actor was president , Ronald Regan brough renewal and the tax system was sent .
Up an economic cliffedge Regan had to climb as George Bush Senior was elected in 1989 .
In Eastern Europe there was conflict and there was war as Bush stepped in and became a popular ambassador .
In 1993 Bill Clinton became the man who they thought was an outsider but on the inside he ran.
He was able to reach the heart of the unruly mob and diplomatically left when George Bush junior got the job .
The attack on America George Bush had to quell and he waged a war on terror in 2001 as well .
Now in 2008 another man awaits , to take up the role as president and all that it relates .
May he who wins have the faith to do what must be done to bring hope and joy to the future in the days that will come .
