Memories… 90 Years On : Narrative Poetry

written by Poet : Paul McCann

Ninety years ago in a place so far away.
Hundreds of thousands of lives was the price to pay.
We try to remember a war we never knew.
And some of the horrors that others had been through.
We can’t change what happened but memories are shared,
With tears in our eyes and hurt in every word.
On the Western Front was many a brave young lad.
Then we think of how they died and it seems so sad,
But time has moved on now and what was then has gone,
Their darkest hour has passed and they’ve found a new dawn.
Those memories live on and through the years we find
They’re never out of sight and never out of mind.
Memories of a war that none of us went through,
Will remain in our hearts, lest we should forget you.
