Knock At The Door : Narrative Poetry

written by Poet : Paul McCann

Last week there was a knock on somebody's door
But nobody knows who it was because the caller was wearing a balaclava on his head.

The price of a life is cheap but the cost of a lifetime filled with tears
Is a debt left by all of those who exchange souls of the living for the dead .

Late night callers often come unannounced to somebody's door and
The message they carry with them is not one some would want to hear anymore.

More and more people in Belfast today are running away inside their homes
Where they hope to keep out the fear by locking it outside their door.

There was a knock on somebody's door the other day.
Somebody opened it up and before they had a chance to say hello, three shots rang out.

Suddenly there was a scream and a car drove away.
Another tit for tat assassination it would seem, without the shadow of a doubt.

Tomorrow at somebody else's door another knock will surely come to even up the score.
But don't be afraid for they will never win.

Like a thief in the night some day another knock will come,
And justice will begin when the owner of the house will ask the caller to come in.
