Jacks And Marbles : Childrens Poetry

written by Poet : Paul McCann

I had a couple of coloured marbles
as big as half a crown,
They were so heavy in my pocket they near pulled my trousers down
When they set two up near the brickyard I thought I would try my luck
Playing marbles in the muck with the boys
they were a sitting duck.
If ever I lost my marbles, there was always a game of Jacks.
On the streets of Belfast the winner took all,
street kids knew their facts.
In my pocket I had a set of Jacks that jingled like a band,
My fingers worked like a surgeon
scooping the jacks up in my hand .
