In Marathon Time : Sports Poetry

written by Poet : Paul McCann

Up the hill at half pace he ran ,against the wind that harshly blew ,as the runner was answering , what he was being asked to do .

Down the other side he went cutting a line straight through the bend .

The marathon's a hard race and there's no rest until the end  .

That's why he has trained so hard ,  it gives him a reason to live  .

Through the wall to stamina , where there was nothing left to give  .

From this place he picks up the pace as the stadium is near .

Into where flags are fluttering and the crowd begin to cheer .

The wind's at his back now and it's not far to the finish line .

Then he sees there  is a chance to set a new world record time  .

He begins to sprint the final lap as the crowd urge him on .

Somewhere within he finds the strength and the old record is gone .

For twenty six miles the waves and smiles encouraged him a lot  and though the race is over something's will never be forgot .
