If I had been there in Bethlehem all those years ago ,
I might have heard a baby cry and went to say hello .
If they had asked me to nurse the child on that special day ,
I would have held him close ,
and sang a song for his birthday .
Welcome to the world Jesus here's a gift
that I have brought .
A song to praise the child that Herod's soldiers had sought,
to take by force and kill with their swords,
on this Christmas day .
If only I was there for his blessing to come my way .
