Grandmas Chair : Family Poetry

written by Poet : Paul McCann

She sat in her chair there aware of nothing and no one .

But when I visited Grandma she murmured , hello son .

Slippers for her feet always sat somewhere near the fireplace .

She wore a shawl round her shoulders made of fine Irish lace .

She liked to knit and crochet and she fumbled with her thumbs .

She had no teeth and loved eating pears and plums with her gums .

In the china cabinet behind some glass ornaments ,

Grandma had a special place for her pounds shillings and pence .

That was the rent mans money and what was left had to do .

Grandmas chair was right next to the china cabinet too ,

so she knew where the money was without having to search .

Grandma was wise and sat all day in her chair by the hearth .
