Enter Bethlehem : Seasonal Poetry

written by Poet : Paul McCann

On a donkeys back the journey was dreadfully slow .,

With many miles behind them and still some more to go .

To Bethlehem went Mary , Joseph and the donkey.

Their baby child on the way , anytime  they would see ,

The miracle of life and a precious little child ,

Day turned  into night and they were on the final mile .

When they entered Bethlehem they had no place go .

Hungry and very tired their concern began to show .

The night was cold and lonely, there was no shelter there ,

And there was no word of welcome there for the stranger .

But Joseph kept on knocking on doors in Bethlehem ,

Finally he found a spot that opened up for them .

A small barn provided shelter and a birth place too .

A star above Bethlehem was now clearly in view .

Baby Jesus was born in a barn  in Bethlehem .

The angels rejoiced , shepherds flocked and three Magi came ,

To welcome the King and praise the name given to him .

Glory be  to Emmanuel forever amen .
