Christmas In The Lock Up : Narrative Poetry

written by Poet : Paul McCann

In the station it's as usual

and the snoring has just begun .

The jingle of jail keys continues ,

before Christmas day has come .

It's as mad as hell this time of year

and the cells all full of drunks .

On the city streets many use one another

as makeshift bunks .

It's party time and young ones

are hung out like stockings around town .

Patrol cars are picking up the  trouble makers

that are around .

For some reason Christmas can be a time ,

when damage can appear   .

But most stations do their best

to clear their cells out by the new year .
