Christmas Eve : Seasonal Poetry

written by Poet : Paul McCann

Underneath a lamp light there's a golden glow on snow .

The winter light will guide our way and away we go.

Icicles on water spouts and smoke from chimney pots .

Frozen streets at twiligh time and empty vacant lots .

Parlours near the pavement with lights in the window .

Knock knock upon the door , sure its your man ,

Ho Ho Ho !

He's rolling out the barrel and brought a laugh or two .

Reindeers up the alley and a cold wind cuts on through .

Lined up little snowmen guard the town with arms of little sticks .

There's a hearth with a warm fire where fires tongue sweeps and licks .

Crying cats on back yard walls and snow on dust bin lids .

Hush puppies on red chilblains and stockings hung for kids .

Chains around the fireplace with crackling sparks of light .

Its cosy on the inside but cold out in the night .

A christmas eve kind of magic is thickly spread round town .

God bless us all tomorrow when Chrismas comes around .
