Belfast Margin Lines : Narrative Poetry

written by Poet : Paul McCann

Belfast City walks between margin lines,
where friends reach out and exchange a handshake.
For goodness sake we've got to trust someone.
Hearts break so easily, what must it take?
The IRA have seen the light of day,
They have begun to throw their guns away.
No more messages with a finger on the trigger,
The answer is not the gun.
The way ahead is to keep on believing in who we are.
We are all someone.
We have been mixed up for too long in a war
that took away our identity.
Today our daughters and sons have the chance
to forgive and forget.
We can be free.
It's not about a 'no surrender',
it's about reaching out on the margin line.
It's about peace. It's about love.
It's about trusting each other and in good time
Belfast will pull itself from the margin line
and place itself back on top again.
Tomorrow must deliver words and actions
with the new message,
'No ones to blame.'
