The Argentinean brigade went on parade ,
in the birds nest stadium ..
They had to beat Nigeria in the final
under a hot midday sun.
Argentina played with new confidence
Beating Brazil had settled their fears .
But it was like an oven out there .
Ninety minutes of vamos , sweat and tears .
Each ball rolled over a spiky grass in the heat
Until the first goal was found .
Then all around the Birds Nest arena Argentina
was the only sound .
A 58th minute goal by Angel Di Maria,
They went vamos .
The gold went to Argentina.
The silver to Nigeria who went close .
