The rite of passage begins with night that swallows up the summers light
As summer gives way to the turning fall we call the powers great and small
Bring to us our renewed year as the death of summer draws so near
And welcome winters icy breath that signals summers timely death
Bonfires burning ever bright will bask the hillsides in their light
As figures dance around the flames we call out to the ancient names
Cerridwen, Lilith, Inaana and Isis have come to see us through this crisis
As Cernunnos, Belili, Marduk and Pan carry out their ancient plan
Burdock root and tarragon leaves are used to put our souls at ease
While stones of Hematite and Obsidian are used to cleanse our deeper sin
The Acacia and the Hemlock trees sway back and forth in the evening breeze
As the Jackal and the Stag prepare for the crisp and cool November air
The Crone will rule for half the year as the Dark Lord turns to disappear
To go once again back to the earth and await next year his own rebirth
She has given us all which we need to carry on with all our deeds
She was the light that brought us hope and now she dares us all to cope
This is the time when spirits can re-enter into the world of man
And cross the threshold of the night to live again and claim their right
As the veil between life and death allows the passing of each breath
It brings with it a glimpse of things we only see within our dreams
The transition is the sacrament as summers light is slowly spent
And with it comes the darker half which beckons us upon its path
Summers End, All Hallows Eve, it’s the change in life we all perceive
A transition from the old to new, and a night we bid summer adieu’
Yet somewhere out within the night there burns a single sacred light
That beckons all the souls of earth to join around its stony hearth
To welcome home a brand new year and lose all of our childish fears
To embrace the change that comes tonight with the dying of the summers light
