2006 : Personification Poetry

written by Poet : louis_in_nc

Herein lies the eulogy of the year Two Thousand Six

With its triumphs and its tragedies both thrown into the mix

A year pot marked with learning about life and how to live

And an undetermined yearning met with little left to give

We look onward towards tomorrow for the brighter days ahead

And leave all the heartfelt sorrow with the dying and the dead

We calculate the deeds we’ve done and resolve to do our best

To make the next year full of fun and take more time to rest

But uncertainty is the only truth which envelopes future days

As we relegate our misspent youth and wasted selfish ways

We resolve to make a difference in the year which soon arrives

In the hopes to find acquaintance for the things we have contrived

Our conscious gets the best of us around this time of year

Its visions can be treacherous and fill our hearts with fear

Yet somewhere in our spirit there resides a calming voice

If you listen you can hear it as it offers up a choice

It tells us that the future brings a chance to make amends

With subtle tones its chorus sings and helps our hearts to mend

Its melody, which ebbs and flows, brings serenity to light

With words arranged in metered prose it calls out to us this night

Fear not the days which lie ahead, fear not the thought of pain

Fear not the path on which you’re lead, nor lack of the humane

Fear not the troubled world around, fear not your soul within

Fear not what horrors may abound, nor the turmoil they begin

Fear not the coming of the dawn; Fear not its blinding light

Fear not the shadows that are drawn to the darkness of the night

Fear not uncertain livelihood, Fear not which you don’t know

For life which is misunderstood leaves room for souls to grow

Two Thousand Six has lived its life its essence in full view

Marching onward to the sounding fife we bid a fond adieu

We lay to rest the past this day and welcome the New Year

For Two Thousand six now fades away, and with it fades our fear.
