A Different World She Lives
She is kind and gentle and greets you with a smile
Her eyes tell a story, just sit and listen for a while
She talks of her car, her money, and her life
Her husband that left and of being his wife
Her children are grown and are out on their own
She feels lost and confused and sometimes alone
The house, which she lives, she swears they are crazy
While she watches TV through clouds that are hazy
She thinks they take her things when she is not around
So she hides them in weird places where they can’t be found
She loves playing with the dog and talking to the baby
Sometimes she knows what she’s doing, I think just maybe
She asks if she can help with the cooking and cleaning
And at times when she talks, her words have no meaning
Sometimes she stares with a blank look on her face
I wonder if she is drifting into her own private place
What are you thinking? Who do you see?
Do you know who I am? Do you remember me?
I think back on all those years that have gone by
And nothing makes sense, and I don’t know why
We shared so many moments some good and some bad
I wish it were different and she would know what we had
She would know I have two sisters and two brothers
And maybe she would know my children and all of the others
I try to remind her and keep her informed
But she gets frustrated and confused and her thoughts get torn
I love her you know, even though she don't know my nameShe is my mother, a different world she lives, is to blame Note: My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in November of 2006.
