Poor, I guess you could say we were. If we're talking about things? Funny I remember creating toys from the simplest things.
A limb of a tree became a bow or a rifle. and cowboys and indians began. Tieing an old table cloth around my neck and I became the super hero. Able to fly. repel bullets.
Oh a simpler time. We had our chores as well. Chopping and bringing in wood, bringing in coal. Water to bathe. Feeding the chickens. working in the garden, pulling weeds.
The cold seat of the toilet in winter......Guess there was a few things I could have done without. Still What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. And let me tell you. If you could get use to that smell you knew you were stronger.
We walked to neighbor about a mile from us.No adults just us kids. Grandma told us to watch out for snakes. And off we'd go. Seems we always encountered at least one snake. We knew which ones were safe to play with.
I guess hill people had to know these things. Grandpa killed any snake he saw he hated them all..... I'm not sure why. I guess he had his reasons. Funny how things have changed. I don't know if for the better or not.
Still I had to reflect on the life of this hillbilly......Reflections.....I guess thats what old people do.....I guess if you're looking back you're getting old too........
