THRU THE EYES OF A CHILD : Childrens Poetry

written by Poet : bolin63

At times we should think back to before when life became a chore,

These are some pleasant thoughts from my childhood memory store.

A flower being kissed by springs first butterfly,

the smell of Nana's perfume as she hugged me goodbye.

The freedom and wind against my face on my first solo bike ride,

summer days fishing with Dad sitting quietly by my side.

The wonderful feeling cuddling with Mom, my head nestled against her breast,

knowing there nothing could harm me as my hair she gently caressed.

Deciding which Halloween costume would cause the most fright,

begrudgingly surrendering my Halloween booty at the end of the night.

Watching my Mom quietly rocking as she knit a new pair of mittens,

the wonder the morning after my cat gave birth to her kittens,

How I giggled as my first puppy frantically licked at my face,

Thanksgiving and the family bonding as Dad solemnly said Grace.

Long talks with my dog, the only one I could trust to understand,

all of my hopes and dreams as together my future we planned.

Never being able to stay awake long enough to see Santa's sleigh,

amazed and excited at the gift laden tree when I awoke the next day.

The uneasy feeling when I first saw my Mother cry,

not understanding when she tried to explain why Nana was going to die.

Tying my tie as I practiced what to say if I dared to chance,

the humiliation of refusal if I dared to ask a girl to dance.

Long talks with my Mom while scraping the bowl of chocolate cake mix,

womblike contentment when sick as she rubbed my chest with Vicks.

After my first love accepted a date my mixed feelings of fear and bliss,

that never again matched butterfly rush when I received my first kiss.

These thoughts we to often forget as our daily adult burdens take hold,

Leaving these pleasant memories to long out in the cold.

So now when life has me frustrated, and somewhat beguiled,

I smile, step back, and look again- but this time "Thru the Eyes of a Child."
