"THE SHADOW"
His dull gray clouds block the sun I once knew,
Changing the once brilliant haze to a deep midnight blue.
He is devious, and all knowing it seems,
Coursing thru our days, even unto our dreams.
His voice is silent, yet always around,
He speaks, yet unheard, with a deafening sound.
If I let the Sun in, the darker he grows,
If I shut the Sun out, he dims, but never goes.
I'm torn, emotions drained, I need more time,
Yet increasingly his shadow grows twixt yours and mine.
More Sun, now he grows to size unfair,
Less Sun, he's gone! No, over there!!
Help me to help us thru this trial,
Don't you know, please don't fall prey to his guile.
Quickly, come with me into this darkened room,
Here no shadow survives, but nor can we in this gloom.
No, this is wrong! Back out into the light!
I must dare to risk all, stand up and fight!
He seems so quick, yet never faster than me,
Oh God, he's won! He holds you tenderly.
Wait! Now I feel you, everything is fine,
How foolish I've been – The Shadow is mine!
Written in Jan 79 regarding how a lover's thought can be twisted by an overactive imagination thru lack of communication
