When I was young ,
pheasants and quail were plentiful
Deer ran free of urban sprawl, chronic wasting disease
The rain was cleaner, people friendlier
Fewer people were obese,
starvation in impoverished nations, wasn't a way of life
After it rained tiny frogs leaped in puddles
The world was not such a puzzle
People were proud to say the pledge of allegiance
Faith in God was a given right
Not a court riddled plight
It was shameful to have a child out of wedlock
Woman wore dresses, simpler frocks
People went to church in flocks
There were more bees, and healthier trees
The seas were plentiful
Free of oil spills
We could eat tuna, free of mercury
When I was young, family was important
We didn’t worship the god of money
Nor did we have the internet
Or thousands of pay per view channels
Television was free
And so was our country
When I was young there was clean air
Something changed
I saw the signal
But no one listened
Now we live in a world
Too few care!
Every bodies rude
We use to have manners, values and ethics
Now we have a world filled
With despair and immorality
When I was young people cared!
