The big question most writers today face is; do we, should we self publish our work?
I personally feel for some people it is the wisest choice. If you love to write and you want your words presentably printed in a book, you should publish. But I think you should realize that if you do, you actually lesson the odds of many prizes and honors.
Because many contests for example THE EMILY DICKENSON AWARD will not accept vanity presses. They will if the book has sold- fewer than three hundred copies. My gut feeling on the serious award scale its most likely not the best idea.
I think for many people it's a wonderful idea. For grandmas, grandpa your momma and your daddy who would love to leave their cute little sayings, thoughts to their future genetics. I think its cool! Woman who would love to leave their recipes, written or cooking and sewing or cleaning tips. -
I had an artist friend, he recently died who downloaded a book of funny jokes and some of his drawings on publish America and he was thrilled with the results. He didn't make any money but his cute little humorous book - ended up paying for its self and now he is dead, gone and all his family has his books, and his collectors. One must consider however this man drew cartoons in the local paper and had a lifetime following as an artisan. I don't believe otherwise his book would have paid for itself.
What the heck if you can afford it, why not! But if you can't I feel there are ways we can do that ourselves. One; we can publish online but you may want to read my notes on here about how you do risk every word picked up by slim internet slut thieves. Read (results to my ten year- online study) posted on this website. To get an honest forecast and outlook as to what you will be subjected to by publishing online. Unless of course your good enough to know how to kill them if they try. For example if you're an inventor who developed brain wave patterns that kill people who steal your ideas, and blink them death mind blinks for ripping you off!
I really don't see anything wrong with it! Its just personally I made up my mind, I will never do it
Because I put my own books in my cabinet and date them. I am certain if the world survives people will want to read my notes, as they do all great inventors, theorists.
Find a Di Vinci note or Michelangelo of somebody famous like Einstein shoot they will give you a publish, on namedropper alone. That's if your dead and have already accomplished the world of art. Or know how to suck off the dead.
Recently some of Einstein's notes were found in a book in a library everyone was thrilled to find them. And some chess game player notes of how to beat the game of chess were recently uncovered and given credit to Di Vinci. The estimated worth of such notes of a great inventor, artist or brain are priceless. My point of this is if your in one of these leagues sure hold out for the hope of about a slim to ten million chance you will ever publish a book, in never- never dream land in this country.
I have recently been doing research in this area; most reputable publishing companies will not entertain any UN prospected books anymore. My contentious, consensus is this conclusion:
The opening up of the worldwide web has created a hurricane on-slop slot of people who can now type, print up a book and send it in. My research says -
Any publishers that will read charge you a reading fee and receive thousands of requests
Per month.
What do you think your odds are of anyone in the position to print a book will ever read yours.
Almost all real publishers do not post information on line and if they do they tell you find an agent. – If you take the time to
Look up the agents and their websites are out of date and many are cons.
And the real ones say
WE DO NOT ACCEPT POETRY period.
I hope this gives you an idea of just what your chances are of publishing a book if you don't do it yourself and if you do chances are slim to none it will ever- begin to pay for itself and you will be damn lucky if it does.
So, here is to all my books in the cabinet I guess I will have to die to get read?
What if your book was the only survival code of how god sent an angel who has the only cure to earth's survival and her books are sitting in the cabinet and if they are not published the world will blow up.
Forget it
If it really was you won't stand a publish without some left brain insanity
Pay your way and you won't accomplish anything
Get it!
Self publish, I don't plan on it but hey I invented fusion
And talk to God
Invent3ed brain waves and can teach esp and how to control minds
And heal people
If that's not worth publishing, the world can blow up for all I care!
If your in that league by all means hold out for a publish!
