Note: PLEASE ADD ANOTHER DEFINATION of poetry if you have one in your references at home. I would like to add there are a few books that give more loosely defined descriptions to poetry. In my studies I have found the loose definitions' of poetry but in the "real" world of publishing, I have learned= it better meet these requirements.

One of the requirements I see most = not met= is metering, this is the toughest mind demon to beat- the best way to find your meter is to write to music, however keep in mind-- few = hear the music. I personally can, if it has a beat- I can hear it. It's best to read poems out loud over and over. Again you do have to keep in mind that how you would read your poem= verbally in voice, isn't always perceived when people read.

That is why it really is wonderful that on this site we have to option to record. I bought one of those things to voice online but haven't had the time to study it or work on it.

I hope to have time in the future to do some recorded readings- I think it would be a really fun thing to do, unfortunately I am always on a time restriction. Please feel free to copy this, I have a large collection of reference books and I am more than happy to share!

Much free information is written online about styles of poetry, names of styles etc.

Just type in online, I personally have studied it but take great pride in writing my own style and I encourage you all to find your place, in poetry history but finding your voice!

Just fitting into some "style" some one else mastered, doesn't get the golden ticket.

Its finding- your individual voice, style and message.
