Watch out Big Brother is watching you! : Creative Writing

written by Poet : blue-rose

We live in an age of endless technology. While most don’t notice, did you know every time you go to Wal-Mart or the gas station you are being watched? Yes, it is true.

A couple of years ago, I went to the gas station to get gas and pee, unfortunately the having- to go to the bathroom overcame my thoughts of paying for gas. I left totally accidentally without paying. By total accident.

Within a couple hours the police were calling on the phone asking for me, tracking me down. Reminding me to either go pay for the gas or go to jail.

My hands were shaking, as I jumped in my car and drove as fast as I could, to pay for the gas.

Thankfully I don’t have any arrest records, or I am certain the policeman wouldn’t have believed me as I frantically explained it was an accident- on the phone instead of in his car coming to arrest me. Because I would lay odds if I had a record, I wouldn’t have been granted this privilege or the benefit of a doubt.

When I arrived at the gas station, the clerk already had a picture of me. They had film of me going to the bathroom- they knew every step I made.

So, when I told them all - it was a mistake, told them my version of what happened- (it was an accident) they believed me= because they could trace my every step with cameras everywhere and my story matched. But for the life of me, I could not imagine how the camera knew to take a picture of my face, during the fill up? That was before I forgot to pay for the gas… It was then I realized every move we make in many public places have cameras.

Last night on the BBC news - today’s date 02-25-08 - European companies are facing suit because they have been caught= watching their employees for -a decade. This includes, reading their emails, listening in on their telephone conversations- looking at their banking, and medical - private records… recording how many times they go to the bathroom.

Have we already lost =privacy?

In an era where many love to down load their private lives on line from MySpace to FaceBook, and writing networks =does any one care?

It wasn’t until last week when face book announced they own all content- forever- did anyone on there ever -give it a thought.

If they pose in their underwear online, take pictures of wild parties and post their sex life online.

I found it ironic when I saw a young man who was protesting this say, “well what if I want to run for president, in the future?” he replied, “They could show this information.” I felt like yelling at him through the TV, hadn’t it ever occurred to you technology generations, you have given up your privacy, by putting it all on the web- in the first place?

You computer generations seem to feel your life is absolutely privileged to grace every download possible, to reveal your personal life anyway. So, do you really care?

It amazes me every day the details people are willing to tell about themselves -online. Especially poets and writers, they reveal their every private moment online-

Thinking nothing of how it could and does violate your own personal privacy.

Because your not - true to yourselves, and it doesn’t take me much reading to know your every thought and detail of your life. You give away freely, tossing away your every freedom and right. And privacy!

The government can put us Americans on a list of - terrorist if we simply type up the word bom-.

So, I am certain I am already on the list. Because I have typed words like that on the net,

Without thinking myself. I just writing poetry about peaceful behavior. I imagine I became on that list as a dissident with my anti war campaigns years ago…

I hope by now they do realize I am just a writer, on a peace mission?

They can now with a satellite hear your conversations in your house, today I typed in on a website view your house by satellite. Thankfully I live in the boonies, because they couldn’t pop me up instantly because according to “that” satellite they haven’t mapped my house yet. But to me it’s a scary thought - they can watch my house if they want by satellite, it isn’t that I have anything to hide, it’s the thought of - I have lost my privacy!

That includes my medical history and medical records. I know they have that already online on the medical reporting bureau and any person with a - insurance license or pass code can get into it anyway.

And obviously many parties have these pass codes. Because years ago, when I was dating someone- that person some how knew my medical history. And told me they had me-

Checked, including my credit scores.

And in reality..

I could be denied employment, you could be denied employment if you have one blemish in your records, and it may be family history. For example if my sister had breast cancer, I may not get hired because - its in my medical history, and I may be prone to it- or a family with a medical history of heart disease. Which could be costly to an employer, are you all getting the magnitude of what loss of privacy means?

Don’t you all ever think of these things?

Through out my life I have been a very private person, I really cherish my privacy.

I feel my life is my own business.

And while I may throw out some personal details of my life, after seeing the news lately I am wondering if I should really delete for all time some things, I just threw online to see what you would read to pay attention.

And if I delete them are they somewhere in the CIA records, or perhaps home land security?

Marking me out as some threat - when in reality I am nothing more than a creative writer…

Just blibber blabbing away online - not actually thinking myself- just how much of my life- thoughts am I willing to allow the world to know about me?

Did you know they now have listening devices as small as a speck of dust. And I have watched things on television (on the science channels) about how the future of technology appears to believe those specks of dust are going to go on every side walk, every street, in the floor and in every house and building.

Have any of you noticed the cameras on streets and corners- that seem to be popping up everywhere. Did you know a camera can hide and be so small in any rest room or place and people could be watching you take a dump at work, or change your period pad.

Just recently a girl friend of mine - got busted having an affair… Her married friends wife had them followed. The private dick knew every dime of cash, he gave her to pay for their trysts in hotels, he knew every time they went to a hotel, and every place they ever went to have an affair, including parking lots. Took pictures, and had phone conversation recorded, this included a pay - as you go telephone he bought her. This also included long distance phone cards he paid cash for. Calls from hotels when he was out of town.

That private detective even knew, it wasn’t one woman - he was calling another one. I mean every detail, somehow this private detective managed to get. Scary -hah.

Obviously I am not having an affair, so that doesn’t worry me. But it is “the principal of the matter.” we have all lost our privacy. And it appears that was lost some time ago…
