Slot nights : Adult Poetry

written by Poet : Jeff Pelsang

Slot Nights Jingle in my pocket as quarters crash with each stride I take, The ching -aling of machines and enough quarters to fill a lake, Excitement fills the casino as another winner trumps, I spy upon the players as their perched upon their stumps, Free drinks and alcohol to lure out the change, Many diversified people, rich, poor, and some that just seem quite strange, Were all potential winners, with a sparkle in our eyes, This is the night, I feel it in my soul, The winner will get his prize, I search for a machine that lures me in with a promise of big wins, Diamonds, Diamonds, Diamonds, I think “where have you been“, I’ve played this machine before and nearly won the lot, Closest I’ve ever been to taking home the pot, On the stump I sit and fill the slot that’s mine, I order a long Island Ice Tea and take my own sweet time, Pulling the handle the diamonds spin and I am on a roll, 100 quarters won, people watch as the magic unfolds, 3 quarters played and slowly I pull the shiny lever to make me rich, 500 coins won as my winnings climb, winning now seems a cinch, I smile back at the crowd that’s starting to gather, as my fame is growing quick, 1000 quarters won, again I’m on a run, People look on to see my next trick, In their eyes I see the fire of jealousy and greed, One more pull, “I broke the bank“, And I planted a major seed, All that have watched are now ready to spend, Their own money leaves their pockets and quickly disappears from their once tight hands, If they knew I was paid bye the casino for this little show, They would probably have left bye now and Saved a lot of dough.
