It's Christmas time and my pockets are noiseless empty pouches which once use to be filled,
Thoughts of a Christmas without giving crams pictures of crying children in my head,
"Am I being tested once again", is this what God has willed or is Santa Claus finally dead?
I wait without answer, without a plan or direction,
I evaluate my past savings and I'm not pleased with my self inspection,
From month to month and year to year I lived from check to check,
I spent money that was borrowed and now the economy has finally wrecked,
Who suffers? My children and yours for all our spoiling ways,
This is the end of a generation of buyers whose credit scores have gone up in blaze,
My children are clueless to this Christmas Morning shock,
Times running out, there's still no gifts, only the ticking of the clock,
Christmas eve came and still the tree is bare,
No presents to put under, no twinkling lights that glare,
I put my kids to bed and kiss them on their nose,
My daughter with the spirit of Christmas smiles with a glow,
"I love you Daddy", your the mostest best daddy in the world,
"I love you too sweety", Im blessed to have you as my girl.
The kids fell fast asleep while I pushed more then just one tear,
Soon I fell asleep and Christmas Morning was here,
I woke to a knock, light but persistent and unending,
It was the front door and a quiet urgency someone was sending,
I opened the door to see the Fire Department, our local voluntary crew,
Arms stuffed with gifts and more then just a few,
They filled the void, that hollow hole that once was under the tree,
I cried that morning a river of tears for all the world to see,
"how did you know" I asked the chief as I told not even a soul,
He smiled, " a 911 call came in from a little girl yesterday who thinks you deserve more then coal",
She told us that you lost your job and your having trouble paying the bills, and there were no stockings hung last night for Santa Claus to fill.
Christmas Morning was a blessing as it was filled with Love and Joy,
The giving hearts of others to insure every child has a toy!
